Etherworld Larp

Is a high fantasy, inclusive LGBTQA+ larp, with a heavy focus on Roleplay, centred around a long, over arcing plot line and personal player stories. We put a lot of time and dedication into our costumes, props and monsters, to bring the world to life and create an engaging immersive environment for players to explore.

Our Season runs from May until October with an average of 1 - 2 Weekend games [Fri-Sat] a month with an average of 9+ games a season. Rain, Sleet, Fog, Hail, Heat and Cold we adjust our kits and play through the elements, adventure waits for no man.

Games take place over multiple locations in Manitoba, both within city limits and outside of them, we pack our tents, our furs and our dinners to explore the in-game world, and out-of-game one. The Northern lights make the mosquitoes bearable.

Costuming

A good kit does not need to be an expensive kit!

We put an emphasis on our costuming, and do it with love. Many of us have taken years to build our kits to what they are, and additionally the majority of the players were cosplayers prior to becoming Larpers.

We require base level kits to have aesthetically fantasy shoes/boots, pants to not appear modern [black tights, dark pants with leg wraps / gut belts to overlay are acceptable] and plain or embroidered non-modern shirts [linen shirts from Old Navy, blouses, etc].

We play in the summer and late into the fall, players will often have hot weather and cold weather versions of their kits. Cloaks that hide winter coats, or wearing puffed jackets under gambesons or furs is acceptable.

Any additional details are a bonus! not a requirement.

Combat

Etherworld's combat is based on a single damage across all weapons, with the addition of a Status call system for specialty strikes.

Players do not call numbers for weapons hits, only status effects from unique attacks that can be found through RP and purchased with XP awarded for attending games. Additional XP can be earned from crafting, NPC work, setup and cleanup.

The call system in Etherworld is universal, from magic, to monsters, to weapons mechanics, creating a streamlined understanding of effects outside of the flavour of the spell or skill.

The Status Effects are designed to be simple and common sense enough that anyone stepping in no matter their familiarity with Larp can pick them up quickly and hear them clearly in the heat of battle.

Magic

The Magic system in Etherworld is made up of two parts, Combat Magic and Ritual Magic.

Combat magic is done through touch, thrown component and weapons based delivery. The damage is a flat number or specialty Status Effect.

Ritual Based Magic is an expansion of an existing spell that is modified into a ritual to create a greater or area effect, or is the development of a one off larger arcane attempt. Neither is guaranteed to succeed.

Creating a ritual takes planning and dedication, the technical work shown in the players Grimoire to demonstrate in-world knowledge of how to create their desired effect. This includes sigil work, a power source, linguistics, loop hole closing and often, teamwork from other magicians.

It also requires the use of props such as ash, candles, component representation and overall theatrics.

Roleplay

Etherworld Larp is a Roleplay heavy game, focused on the interactions of players, both with the story and each other. It is a plot driven game, the events of the world are unfolding and its up to the players to unravel the mysteries.

Bonds are built on shared experiences, dangers and triumphs of each game bring the characters together and create investment in each others lives. Be it on the battlefield or in the tavern, on the road in peace and turmoil, these travellers become the found family they didn't know they needed.

We highly recommend working with the World Masters to craft a backstory that has open ends, pieces and tidbits that can be secretly fed back into the main story for you to discover along the way.

This gives the ability to create dramatic reveals and new understanding of the world of Tyr Scithe Kallen and your characters place within it.
